Euclid accident victim passes away

(Euclid) - The Euclid Police Department has a suspect in a deadly weekend accident. The 65-year old Willoughby resident is not being indentified at this time pending formal criminal charges.

The accident happened Saturday on State Route 2-East at mile post 208 (near the Lloyd Road exit).

The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Kiara N. (Ortiz) Rodriguez of Cleveland. Rodriguez had pulled her car onto the right berm to check for a flat tire.

Rodriguez exited her car through the driver’s side door. While she was next to the driver’s side of her car, a passing eastbound vehicle struck her.

Prior to the accident, two passengers had exited Rodriguez’s car and were standing on the right berm. Neither of those individuals were injured.

Rodriguez was initially transported to the Lake West Hospital ER and then to the Metro Health Medical Center ER. Rodriguez passed away at the Metro Health Medical Center on Monday. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office is working with the Euclid Police Depart-ment to investigate.
