(Cleveland) - Mayor Frank Jackson is telling city workers to not release information about the investigation of three kidnapped women. He says that should only be coming from proper channels.
Jackson has signed an order directing employees to follow the correct protocol in releasing information. He indicates that those who don't may face discipline.
Jackson says investigatory information may or may not be true, and he doesn't want the victims’ families to be barraged by inaccurate accounts. He also doesn't want the law enforcement effort against Ariel Castro to be compromised.
Jackson claims his order is not an effort to conceal information from the media.
Jackson is also asking citizens to tone down their outpouring of support for the families of Gina DeJesus, Amanda Berry, and Michelle Knight.
Though residents may have good intentions, he urges everyone to give the families space and time to heal.
