(Berea)--Thursday was the first day of Browns training camp, and team owner Jimmy Haslam knows that football fans in Northeast Ohio are not just concerned about the team's record this season, but also about the future of his ownership of the team, given the federal investigation into the rebate program at his family's Pilot Flying J truck stop company.
Haslam said Thursday "We're committed to owning the Browns for a long, long period of time." He knows that's an issue among fans, but says one of his top priorities is to keep his truck stop company separate from the Browns. In fact, he says the team and its coaches and staff will not be distracted. He says the team is focused on winning, and providing the best experience for fans.
As far as how the NFL is taking the whole Pilot Flying J situation, Haslam said Thursday at training camp that he's trying to be as transparent as possible regarding those issues. "One of the very first calls we made was to the NFL. They have been very supportive, and I am very optimistic about the outcome."
