Joe D walks from Buffalo to Football Hall of Fame

(Geagua County) - Pro Football Hall of Famer, and former Cleveland Browns lineman Joe DeLamielleure is walking from Buffalo to Canton, to raise awareness about Grace's Lamp and children in need of prosthetics.

DeLamielleure began his 213 mile walk last week, and we caught up with him somewhere in Geauga County, less than 50 miles from his goal. He started in Buffalo because that's where his career began.

DeLamielleure says children are often not covered by insurance when they need prosthetics, which frequently cost in the tens of thousands of dollars, and have to be replaced every several years.

The 62 year old DeLamielleure admits that the heat has been brutal as he makes his way along state and county roads, but has been getting lots of support.

Former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar is now walking with him, and he's gotten calls from such football greats as Dan Fouts, Bart Starr, and Warren Moon.

DeLamielleure was inspired by Joey Funderburk, a boy born without legs because of a rare birth defect and abandoned by his mother. When he turned 18 Joey needed new prosthetic legs that cost $120,000 and began selling donuts to raise money for new limbs.

After DeLamielleure made contact with Joey he decided to join Grace's Lamp, an organization seeking to raise awareness about kids in need of prosthetics.
