(Cleveland) - A landmark day for the city of Cleveland and the entire region. Local leaders including Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald, Cleveland Clinic President and CEO Toby Cosgrove, University Hospitals Health Care System President Tom Zenty and several others cut a ceremonial Ribbon Tuesday afternoon marking completion of phase 1 of the Global Center For Health Innovation downtown.
The center will showcase the latest in medical technology and services to health care systems all over the world. Phase 2 construction will be completed in a few months with the GCHI opening to the public in February.
The center is attached to the new Convention Center, offering 1.3 million square feet of space for conventioneers and medical companies to show their wares. The GCHI was completed three months ahead of schedule and under budget, the savings from which will go toward construction of a Convention Center hotel. The The Global Center For Health Center/Convention Center construction project involved the work of more than 3,300 construction workers.
